“ but how can one be warm alone?”
Nuclear warheads fell like duds at vacant children’s playground, packed hospitals, and where love one could find the shelter that would be blown away. One of the missiles lay in the enemy’s own garden- the bigot that fired them. The extravagant manor barely stood, it was eroded by the radiating ice. It either remained crystalized or disintegrated into a diamond mist.
Under the ruined place was bunker made of the hardest alloy, armed machinery, and burning laser grids, it all blew away from the azure radiance that busted through like a hurricane. The wild elements were emitted from a young women- Zero- an assassin from the resistance. Zero had short hair that was blue as the icy seas, and her skin shimmered like the snow.
Zero finally stood before the head of the Omega empire, he was trembling. The fool was armed with an old fancy pistol. He exhaled and pointed the gun at his own head. Zero froze the weapon as swift as a cold breeze. Unannounced, the half-wit pulled the trigger, and it crumbled into nothingness. At his feet was his two boys and his mate lifeless with holes in their heads. Zero lunged, grabbed him by the head as hard as a vise, the pain collapse him to his knees.
“You- ugly creature,” she said as her grip stiffen.
“I’m more human than you. So ignorant, one day you’re beloved king by nightfall you’re a tyrannical ruler,” he replied
“ Are you crying? Go on. Cry, let it all out.”
She froze his skin as she tightened her grip. When his skin was cracking, he whaled from the torture. His agony wasn’t loud enough, she squeezed harder into his skull- she couldn’t control her wrath, and it popped his head into a red powder.
Zero felt the grime on her hand, but she didn’t fill the need to shake it off. She only stared. There was a dim light flashing from a lanky screen on the wall.
“Are you the one that deactivated the nuclear assault?”
“Yes, I am.”
“At the last moment, you decide to go against your protocol and be our hero?”
“All action no matter, how just or how terrible, the result should always protect humanity. I calculated the outcome repeatedly, the result was incongruent. I no longer assisted The Supreme, his last actions were detrimental.”
“Clearly… Thank you for saving us.”
Zero she stood there, still- sterile.
“There is no other option. Us human, especially corrupt ones with power, can become an extinction-level threat. A risk we can’t afford. I will carve a safer world. I will be a sword… and today, your name is Sovereign.” Zero said.
Ten years later, a world of serenity and control.
The year after- Zero almost died, but instead, she lost her arm.
She survived the clash with her old friend, who was on the wrong side. They fought on the battlefield multiple time as fellow Novas- the four humans gifted with the power of the changing seasons. When the world almost achieved peace, the old friend and comrade along with the other two resisted the necessary laws. They weren’t ready to let go of misleading freedoms that are self-destructive.
Zero – she didn’t age much over the decade, but her hair was longer, and her right arm was the latest mechanical hardware in all white- had a great view from the hover carrier of the battle at hand.
She sent eighty percent of air power to focus on Burner, the Summer Nova- soft blazing fire kid flying on his fiery surfboard. He was quite an explosive threat above but would always sprint and could never go the distance- the onslaught was wearing him down.
The ground militia charged non stop, the dirty trap and ambushes of the resistance prolonged her victory. The beguiled civilians’ were in hiding and were in need of help.
Sparks the spring nova- a black woman kindled in a star-like aura, her hair flowing like the sun- swooped in the middle of the chaos like she was the heroine of justice. Spark swift as light dominating the war zone in the city obtaining the tide of the fight for herself.
Zero slammed the red button. The rear hatch opened to embers of war-fire. She dived through the gunsmoke descending onto Sparks. Zero stormy luminescence was unbound, her energy shifted to a blade of icy radiance within her grips.
Zero quickly slashed at Sparks’ throat, but she dashed backward. Her attack left cold shockwaves freezing the grounds. She rushed her like violent winds. Sparks bolted in a glimmer of a second, avoiding her cold tempest strikes. She sliced through a beaten skyscraper, provoking an avalanche of debris. Zero maneuvered through falling obstacles into the sky and emitted high winds from her stormy radiance to glide above the clouds.
At all cost, Zero needed to finish this, she amplified her frost-like energy-sword into a spiraling blue air, she lifted over her head and hurled the freezing cyclone below her- at everyone standing in her way. She hung in the sky as her mad tornado was landing upon the battlefield. The war-zone was hushed all she heard was the howling gales of her last attack. The skies seem peaceful.
In a flash, her quiet storm was unraveled. Sparks went through the tempest and was up- above her. Zero’s heart coiled tightly at the bottom of the sky looking up to the so-called hero. Sparks flipped downward, kicking her in the face. She crashed into the grounds like falling villain.
The sky spun around, though Zero paralyzed in the crater, still felt like she was dropping. Sparks stood over her, she tried to get up, but she tripped to her knees. Zero realize the resistance was cheering, the Summer Nova was burning the last of flying units. Sovereign’s troops were broken parts, and Sparks was not only the hero but a victorious one. Zero’s robotic arm opened to a panel, it was Sovereign.
“Thank you Zero, History will never cease to speak of your heroics.” he continued, “Do not worry we have already won.”
Zero’s arm was vibrating, and the robotic remains that are scattered throughout the whole city were shaking at the same frequency.
“Wait! Sovereign, what about the civilians?” She replied.
“There are no civilians, everyone here is a nuclear-level threat. The self-destruct protocol will cleanse the deviants,” he said.
Sparks grabbed Zero by the throat.
“What are you doing?” Sparks demanded
The frequency was loud, bleeding their ears except for Sparks and Zero- they were only irritated by the sounds.
“All of it… everything will explode within two minutes.” Zero confessed.
“and everyone, just like that. I looked up to you… you- ugly creature.” Spark said as her grip tighten.
Zero laughed to tears. She bit Sparks hand as hard as she could, Sparks punched her in the face. Zero stood up and spit the hero’s precious blood out.
“Codeword. Dethrone. Activate now.” Zero said to the panel on her arm.
“Are you sure?” Sovereign tonelessly responded.
“Zero?” Sparks questioned
“I still hate you, all of you.” Zero scoffed.
“Wait… I’m protecting humanity like you wanted.” Sovereign, in his normal idiotic tone, stated.
“Yes. Immediately” Zero said.
The frequency was hushed. The sovereign program was deleted, and everybody was saved, just like that. The hero smiled at her. The defeated villain crystallized her blade again. The hero tensed up, confused but ready to fight. The villain aimed the sword at her own heart. The hero unclenched her fist and reached out to her like she can be saved.
“For once, stop. Just stop. We can talk about this.” Sparks pleaded.
The villain stabbed herself in the chess and with a twist of the blade her heart burst.
Zero died.
Sparks placed her hand on her chest, she infused all of her regenerative energy into Zero. She almost died reviving her, but she couldn’t bring her back. The victory wasn’t as sweet as it should be.
